Matthew Amroliwala : biography

1962 –

Matthew Amroliwala (born 1962) is a BBC newsreader who presents on the BBC News Channel each weekday from 2pm – 5pm alongside Jane Hill or Emily Maitlis. He is an occasional relief presenter of the BBC Weekend News on BBC One and appears in the revamped Crimewatch programme on BBC One, with Kirsty Young.

Biography

He was born Mehrwan F. Amroliwala in Leeds,England & Wales, Birth Index: 1837-1983. England and Wales Civil Registration Indexes. General Register Office, London, England. the son of a Royal Air Force officer, and he is a Parsi Zoroastrian. He was educated at The King’s School, Ely and then at St Chad’s College, Durham University. He graduated in 1984 having read Law and Politics.

He was married in London to a non Parsi in June 1999, and has four children: Milo, Louis, Mary and Mabel.

He has covered many major news stories including reporting extensively from Northern Ireland. He has also reported from Bosnia on the fall of Srebrenica and travelled throughout the Balkans during the conflict in Bosnia.
