Chris Lowe (journalist) : biography

John Christopher Lowe (born 25 January 1949 in Scotland) is a news presenter who worked for BBC News for 37 years until his retirement on 4 January 2009.

Career

After graduation in 1972, Lowe intended to train as a teacher. He joined the BBC on the same day as Jeremy Paxman under the graduate journalist programme. He was a political correspondent at Westminster. He spent time in Northern Ireland during the worst of the Troubles, and then as far afield as Ethiopia and Argentina.

Lowe was replaced in April 2009 by Clive Myrie.

Education

Lowe was educated at Dragon School in Oxford, Haileybury College, and at Brasenose College, Oxford.

Personal life

Married, Chris Lowe lived in Ealing, west London. Both his son and daughter work as sports presenters, with daughter Rebecca Lowe working for ESPN UK.
